Children's Development Academy supports the education of pre-schoolers of single parents and parents in need, as the parents are at work. Our Rotary club has participated in several activities to improve the facility and the student's and teacher's quality of life. Annually, we create, set up and facilitate a treasure hunt (age appropriate toys) for two groups of students in the court yard and playground area. We then sit down at separate tables to have lunch with the students to discuss their life. Since it is the 50th anniversary of the CDA's existence, we asked the School Principal if they wanted to do something different this year?......We were given a funny look, as the treasure hunt is one of the student's favorite activities of the year. Thus, we stuck with the same implementation plan. However, this year we were hit with rain at the 11th hour and had to improvise by re-setting up the treasure hunt indoors, within a very short period of time. Our volunteers and school staff oversee the hunt to make sure all the kids receive an equal amount of toys, which keeps a smile going on all faces. Conversations with these kids at their lunch tables is very intriguing and enjoyable, as they are in a good mood and comfortable in speaking their mind to the adult volunteers.
