Disaster Relief in North Carolina

Joy Manbeck and her husband Bud traveled to the Asheville, NC area to help those in need. Joy and Bud have been on two trips. Our District has actually done three trips since the Helene and Milton storms occurred.

District 6900 purchased the Disaster Relief trailer, which Gordon will be bringing to our luncheon on April 22nd. Joy and Bud went to Augusta the first week in January. There, they helped clean up a lot of downed tree debris and worked on the restoration of some buildings at a historic Girl Scout Camp in Grovetown (just outside of Augusta) that had been damaged by Helene.

Gordon Owens and Chris Brand were there, along with some people from other Dist 6900 Clubs and some Dist 6910 Clubs. March 10 thru 13, they worked with a Disaster Relief team in Black Mountain N.C., which is just north of Asheville.

They helped restore some mobile homes that had been wiped out by Helene. Several other groups were there - some from as far away as Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Corpus Christi (students from Texas A&M) and several other areas. It was an incredible trip, with many dedicated hands. Gordon and Chris were also there, as well as some folks from Dist 6910 clubs.
