CPR Class Raises Funds for Chateau Elan Military Support Foundation

On June 3, Rotary Club of North Fulton held a CPR training event at Chateau Elan on behalf of the Chateau Elan Military Support Foundation. This successful event raised $1250 for this deserving foundation.

This was the eighth CPR class our club conducted at Chateau Elan. The first two classes, held last year, were offered exclusively to retired members of the armed forces. Following the success of those sessions, residents expressed interest in making the training available to the broader Chateau Elan community as a fundraiser for their Foundation.

These most recent classes carried even greater significance, as two Chateau Elan residents recently experienced cardiac arrest events. As a result, interest in CPR and AED training increased substantially, reinforcing the importance of teaching these lifesaving skills. Response time by EMS to the latest cardiac arrest was 18 minutes which sparked increased interest by the community.

Joining Steve Cory and Marc Gelber in teaching the classes was Andy Wheeler, a retired captain from the Alpharetta Fire Department. Andy has helped teach well over 30 classes with our Rotary.

We are also excited to announce that the CPR initiative has been awarded a $5,000 grant from Wellstar Health System to help expand the program throughout our community and beyond.

Over the next two months, two members of our club will become certified as Red Cross Instructor Trainers. Once certified, they will be able to train Rotarians from other clubs to become Red Cross CPR instructors. This will allow us to significantly expand this worthwhile program throughout District 6900 and train many more community members in lifesaving CPR and AED skills.

The growth of this initiative is possible thanks to the generous support of Wellstar and the dedication of our volunteers and community partners.

If you are interested in becoming an instructor or would like to assist with the program in any capacity, please contact Steve Cory or Marc Gelber for more information.
